Burnhamthorpe Trail improvements

New pedestrian bridges and streetscape beautification along the Burnhamthorpe Road East Corridor between Absolute Avenue and Dixie Road.

Progress

Pedestrian bridge over a creekThe project is 95% complete including the following:

  • Intersection corner treatments with concrete paving patterns and benches
  • New transit stops with bus shelters and connections to multi-use trail
  • Two pedestrian bridges over the east and west branches of Cooksville Creek
  • Streetscape planting including 400 new trees
  • Vines planted at base of decorative grills on existing concrete noise walls

  • Construction began
  • Construction scheduled to be complete Fall 2015
  • Remaining elements at intersections include safety bollards, waste/recycling units, and bike rings

Background

What initiated the project:

  • In 2010, the City of Mississauga completed a Class Environmental Assessment (Class EA) for the Burnhamthorpe Road East corridor
  • The project was implemented by the Transportation & Works and Park Development sections

Goals and objectives

The goal of this project is to balance the needs of all users along the Burnhamthorpe Road East trail including pedestrians and cyclists.
